As part of Herb’s community work to help those who are less fortunate, he has worked in leadership roles since 2010 with The Giving Spirit (TGS).
TGS was formed in 1999 to bring immediate aid in the form of goods and human contact, directly to homeless citizens throughout Los Angeles.
Over time, TGS’ mission has grown to include the education we bring to our volunteers, both on the streets and in curated sessions held throughout the year. As of 2019, we’ve served over 53,000 people on the streets of Los Angeles, via 18,000+ volunteers we’ve brought together through our events.
Community Outreach Committee Chair: 2013-2017. Coordinated the activities of 2,000+ volunteers annually, while managing a staff of 5-10 volunteers and serving as liaison to a dozen full-time agency partners.
Chairman’s Award recipient in 2015.
Member of the Board of Directors: 2017 - 2019. Set strategic, multi-year organizational goals, while directing the allocation of record-setting levels of fundraising for our non-profit.
